Skanderborg and surroundings
Skanderborg is situated on the doorstep of the Danish Lake District (Søhøjlandet) – one of Denmark’s most beautiful areas. The town is the oldest in this area and has a long and interesting history, being as it is, a former royal seat and the oldest chartered town in the district.
Through the years, Skanderborg has developed into a modern commercial centre, with a great number of shops, cosy restaurants and cafés, small museums and many opportunities for enjoying sports as well as cultural activities.
On a nice summer's day, it is wonderful to rent a canoe or kayak and set out on one of the lakes. Skanderborg Lake is directly connected to the Gudenå river, which gives you plenty of possibilities for tours of different length and time.
Skanderborg's location near the Jutland motorway E45 and a major railway junction, makes it the perfect starting point for trips to well-known attractions in Jutland such as "Legoland" in Billund; most of them can be reached in an hour's drive.
